Message From the Director

Welcome to the Web site of the District of Columbia Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program Office. This site provides information on the core functions of DC AHEC (Health Professional Education, Continuing Education, Health Careers and Workforce Diversity, and Community Health Education and Outreach) plus other valuable resources. The AHEC Program Office is located at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.  The AHEC partner schools include Catholic, Howard, Georgetown, and George Washington Universities.
 
In addition to the AHEC Program Office, GW hosts a number of other activities that complement the AHEC mission including the Summer Health Career Institute, the Community Medicine/Urban Health track for medical students, and the ISCOPES program.  Similar activities are also sponsored at our partner institutions, with more info provided in our Links section.

As the DC AHEC program has grown, the complexity of our activities and relationships between the program and center offices has caused some stakeholders and community supporters to be confused about how each entity interfaces with each other and the community.  I kindly refer you to the History section of our website in order to understand the structural and mutually supportive elements that help to define the AHEC program in the Washington DC community.
