Clinical Placements
Clinical training for medical, nurse practitioner,
and physician assistant students is available through
the AHEC Clearinghouse. Clinics that serve the safety
net population in Washington, DC are available for
students who desire to complete required clerkship
or training experiences. All students are required
to complete various modules of the AHEC curriculum,
which can be found under the Training
section of this web site. Contact your clinical placement
director at your respective institution and ask to
be placed at an "AHEC site". Students from
outside DC should have their faculty member contact Lauren Mardirosian, lmardirosian@dcpca.org,
the AHEC Clearinghouse coordinator.
Service Learning
Each of our academic partners host a variety of outreach
activities that facilitate the unique partnership
between academic institutions and community based
organizations. The following list is just a small
snapshot of the service learning opportunities for
undergraduate and graduate students. Some of the activities
are offered to the entire student body, and some are
open only to students in a health professional program.
If you would like to participate, reach out to the
partners listed, and get involved!
Kids into Health Careers
The best time to reach kids and influence their choice
of careers is during their primary and secondary school
years. Various initiatives are sponsored by our academic
partners, in addition to activities sponsored by the
